No Spice (Closed Door Romance)

A Non-Spoiler Synopsis
Kate Turner, a successful 34-year-old fabric designer and part time baker, is ready to say “Bah, humbug” to relationships. It’s not that she’s been unsuccessful finding relationships, they just don’t last. It doesn’t help that she recently moved back to the small, picturesque town of Blexford, England. There’s not exactly a huge pool of eligible bachelors for her to choose from.
Kate is comfortable with her own company. Too comfortable if you ask her best friend Laura. Laura convinced Kate to sign up for the perfect holiday dating experience. The Twelve dates of Christmas promises to help singles find their love before cuffing season ends. In the twenty-three days leading up to Christmas Kate will go on twelve dates with twelve different men. How bad can it be?
If you ask her other best friend, Matt the owner of the cafe that sells Kate’s baked goods, this is a horrible idea. But Kate is determined to make the best of it, even though love might be closer to home than she thinks.
The Smut and Vibes of “The Twelve Dates of Christmas” (light spoilers)
This is a cute and cozy holiday read. There is no smut as it is a closed-door romance but there are a few kissing scenes.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. Kate is a fun main character who doesn’t take herself too seriously and it is entertaining to watch her go on disastrous dates. This book definitely gave me the cozy vibe of Gilmore Girls solely based on the location. Blexford is a small town where everyone knows everyone, and they are all invested in Kate’s dating life.
If you enjoy the friend to lovers trope, you’ll enjoy Kate and Matt’s relationship. They were childhood friends that suffered a massive friend break up in college. Since Kate’s father’s health was declining due to a broken heart, Kate moved back to Blexford and mended her relationship with Matt.
I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for a light holiday read.
Happy Reading!
