A Non-Spoiler Synopsis
The last thing Cassandra Camberwell wanted to do was return to her hometown of Hollow Brook. But when her beloved grandmother Adeline passes away and leaves her home to Cassie, Cassie has no choice but to return to the town that holds painful and embarrassing memories.
To make matters worse, it appears that her grandmother made friends with her ex-bestfriend-now mortal enemy Seth Brubaker.
Seth is all apologies now that he’s desperate for Cassie’s help. Seth believes that Cassie is a witch and that she is his only hope. Seth is a werewolf who’s having some issues managing his symptoms.
He offers a trade. He’ll teach her everything he can about magic and the supernatural and in exchange she’ll brew potions for him.
Of course nothing can be that simple. Trying to keep things unemotional and business like is tricky when a do-or-die mating bond kicks in.
My THOTs on the Smut and Vibes of “How to Help a Hungry Werewolf”
If you are looking for more of a rom-com spicy supernatural read this book is for you. This is perfect if you’re looking for a light palate cleanser between denser romantasy or dark romance books. This was the first book by Charlotte Stein that I’ve read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Stein has a very distinct writing style that is humorous, and dialog driven. It took me a few chapters to get used to the flow of the book, but once I adjusted, I was all in!
This almost has a cozy fantasy feel. A few examples, Cassie’s familiar is a racoon, the house she inherited in sentient, and she flew on a vacuum instead of a broom. These elements made it a very fun read.
This book combines the enemies-to-lovers and friends-to-lovers trope. Cassie and Seth were inseparable as children but once they became teenagers everything went awry once Seth joined the “cool guys” at school. Cassie is a plus sized character, which I love, and I wish there was more plus size representation in books! Trigger warning, the break in their friendship is rooted in Seth publicly making fatphobic comments about Cassie in front of the entire high school.
The romance is slowly developed, which I appreciate, and the spicy scenes do not occur until towards the end of the book, but they are worth the wait! The only reason I did not give this book a 5 pepper rating was because there are only a few spicy scenes, but those spicy scenes are ❤️🔥. If you’re a fan of dirty talk this is an absolute must read.
