A Non-spoiler Synopsis
Sally Powell is back home to visit her parents in Hartsville, Texas before starting her dream veterinary job in New York. While she’s home, she wouldn’t mind putting an end to her dry spell, preferably with a local cowboy. After a string of lackluster relationships in collage, Sally usually doesn’t feel anything except anxiety and awkwardness when she attempts to flirt. Hopefully, her childhood best friend, Wyatt, can help her out in that department.
Despite being known as the local heartbreaker, Wyatt has only ever loved Sally. And not in the friendship way. So, when Sally asks Wyatt to help her practice dating and maybe catch the eye of another cowboy; Wyatt can’t tell her no
When the dating “practice” starts to feel too real and they admit their feelings to each other, can they make this work? Between the pressure of their families and Sally’s flight to New York getting closer and closer can their love transcend?
Why “Wyatt” made the DNF List
I just want to start off saying that this is in no way, shape, or form a bad book. It’s just not the type of story that kept my attention. Here is a list of the good qualities of the book.
- Sally and Wyatts relationship is very cute. They’re childhood friends that have both been nursing a crush for the other but didn’t think they were in each other leagues.
- Despite Sally’s job being in the way of their relationship. Wyatt fully supports her and is not pressuring her to stay with him in Texas.
- This book is veryyyyyyyy spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️(including bondage & BDSM)
- The book is also well written with good characterization and dialog.
With all that being said it ultimately didn’t keep my attention because it felt like there was a lack of plot. From the very beginning it was clear that Sally didn’t really want the job in New York and that it was her dad pressuring her to take the job.
It reminded me a little too much of the plot to a Hallmark movie where the FMC leaves her high-power career for a lumberjack in her small town. I also didn’t want to read a book about a woman having to essentially choose between her career and a man. Yes, Wyatt wasn’t “making” her choose (and it was clear that she didn’t really want the job), but it was the main contention of the book.
While this wasn’t my cup of tea, if you’re looking for a super spicy cowboy read then you may enjoy this one.
