A Non-spoiler Synopsis

As much as Nancy Newland loves love, as her collection of smutty romance novels can attest, she has given up on finding her happily ever after. But when the scary town loner, Jack Jackson, walks into her bookstore and straight to the self-help section she can’t help but want to offer her assistance. Jack is desperate for help in the romance department and after some gentle pressure he agrees to let her help him woo his dream girl.

Nancy quickly finds out that it’s a bit more complicated than unrequited love. Jack is actually a demon with daddy issues. See his dad, one of Hell’s generals, wants Jack back at work dragging evildoers’ souls to hell. But Jack wants a better life for himself. He just needs to win over the woman his fate-and soul-is tied to. If his one true love confesses her love to him, he can stay in the human world, but if she doesn’t then he’s going to be dragged back to Hell.

Luckily for Jack, Nancy isn’t a regular bookstore owner but is actually a witch. A little magic and dating practice is all he needs to be prepared to win his love over. Never mind the fact that every day they spend together the idea of Jack moving on becomes more and more agonizing.

My Thoughts on the Smut and Vibes of “Dealing with a Desperate Demon” by Charlotte Stein

I am not going to lie. I was a little disappointed with this book. I’ve read a number of Charlotte Stein books and this one didn’t grab my attention the same way “How to Help a Hungry Werewolf” by Charlotte Stein – Smutty Vibes or “When Grumpy Met Sunshine” by Charlotte Stein – Smutty Vibes did. “Dealing with a Desperate Demon” was still an enjoyable read, and I do recommend it if you’re looking for a lighter/cozy fantasy read.

Nancy is a quintessentially nice bookstore owner whose magic has been suppressed by her controlling father. I enjoyed her story arc of reclaiming her magic. Her magical knack is in writing, which is such a fun spin of witchcraft that I appreciated.

Jack is gruff and scary on the outside but is a cinnamon roll on the inside. He was dropped in the human realm with no context so everything he’s learned about the human world has been from movies. Jack’s story arc focuses on him starting to believe he deserves to be treated well and can be loved for who he is.

Like all of Charlotte Stein’s books, this one is a slow burn with cozy vibes. This one is a fun light read and if you’ve read and enjoyed her other books you’ll probably still enjoy this one. I also feel like if you enjoy Ali Hazelwood you’ll enjoy Charlotte Stein’s books.
