A Non-Spoiler Synopsis of “His Perfect Muse” by Aria Harding
Olivia didn’t expect to suddenly be out of a job like this. She was barely getting by on her administrative income but now she’s two weeks late on rent for her dilapidated apartment. As luck would have it her friend may have found the perfect job for her.
Hunter is in a tough spot as well. As a widower with a young son, he desperately needs help. When Olivia’s friend recommends her as a nanny to Hunter’s son, the arrangement is mutually beneficial…until their relationship goes beyond the confines of boss and employee. Is Hunter ready and able to open up his heart again?
My Review of “His Perfect Muse” by Aria Harding
This was my first time reading a book written by Aria Harding. While I enjoyed her writing style this book ultimately wasn’t for me.
Olivia, our FMC, is a natural caregiver and besides being described as “nice” by the other characters, it did not feel like there was a lot of depth to her character outside of how she makes Hunter, the MMC, feel. Olivia is the first person Hunter has been interested in since the passing of his late wife. Understandably, he feels a lot of guilt surrounding his attraction for Olivia.
Hunter continuously pushes Olivia away, yet she keeps expressing her interest and growing love for him. Personally, I do not enjoy the trope of the woman healing a man through her devotion and kindness. I really wish we saw more into Olivia’s character to understand why she was so in love with him and understand why she was putting up with his hot and cold behavior.
What was done very well was the emotional depth of Hunter. He grapples with his grief and guilt over his wife’s death, and we get to see a very nice example of a loving father parenting his child. I just wish there was equal depth given to Olivia.
Now if you enjoy employee/boss dynamics, provider MMCs, and forced proximity you may still enjoy this book. While the character development and plot were not necessarily my taste; the book was well written, and I am interested in reading other books by Aria Harding.
